First rehearsal of 2021 for Airedale
The first evening rehearsal at Airedale Symphony Orchestra on Monday 17 May was an extraordinary moment in time. To restart the musical engine after such a long time away from rehearsals is both exhilarating and scary! The last time we met was in November 2020.
The incredible team at Airedale, built up over many years by their conductor John Anderson, handled this first rehearsal (out of four) with great warmth and enthusiasm. It was a privilege to have the opportunity to work with them in a deputising role for John as their conductor for the evening.
Rose'y Anderson's enthusiasm and attention to detail meant that COVID-safe conditions were in place at Guiseley School (@guiseleyschool) so that the orchestra could meet safely. The facilities at the school are first class, and the caretaker was there quietly overseeing the letting pleasantly and professionally. Thank you to Rose'y for getting us all there and to Guiseley School for providing excellent facilities.
The rehearsal included Beethoven's 8th Symphony, Delius, On Hearing the First Cuckoo in Spring, and Poulenc's Sinfonietta, one of my favourite pieces of music. Everyone, including myself, went away after an hour and a half of music-making, feeling very satisfied and greatly energised.
I can't wait until next Monday!
